Cross-Department Clarity: How Abby Became the Bridge Between Marketing and Sales
As a project lead overseeing both Marketing and Sales campaigns, Abby was stuck in the middle—literally.
Marketing loved creative brainstorming, brand storytelling, and long-term strategy. Sales focused on numbers, immediacy, and bottom-line results. Every project review felt like a tug-of-war.
Marketing would launch a campaign and Sales would say, “This isn’t what our clients are asking for.”
Sales would demand fast materials, and Marketing would push back: “We need more time to build something that resonates.”
Abby’s meetings became battlegrounds, with her stuck in the crossfire.
She tried emails. She tried shared docs. She even hosted joint team lunches. Nothing worked. She started to question her leadership.
Wake-Up Call: One Meeting That Changed Everything
It wasn’t until a campaign launch completely flopped—due to disconnects between messaging and client needs—that Abby got real feedback from her VP:
“You’re leading both teams, but you’re speaking one language to two very different groups. You need to be the translator, not just the messenger.”
That was the turning point.
The Shift: Adapt to Connect
Abby went through DISC training and uncovered her natural style: High I (Influence)—enthusiastic, people-focused, expressive.
It made her great at energizing teams, but she realized that her upbeat, idea-heavy approach was landing flat with the High D (Dominant) personalities in Sales and overwhelming for the High C (Conscientious) types in Marketing.
Through coaching, Abby began tailoring her communication:
📝 To Sales: Clear bullet points, urgency, outcomes, and short timelines.
📝 To Marketing: Creative room, rationale behind decisions, and collaborative tools.
📝 In meetings: She became the bridge—translating strategy into execution and helping each side see the other’s value.
She didn’t just change how she spoke—she changed how she listened.
In the next product launch, both teams felt heard—and the results showed it. Engagement rose. Client feedback was better. Sales closed more deals faster.
Abby had finally become the bridge, not the buffer.
By understanding communication styles and learning to flex her own, she turned cross-functional chaos into clarity.
